Almost 20 people came Sunday night to the first reading of “Fiddler on the Roof,” a script for the “Over the Speed Limit Players,” a branch of the Webster City Community Theatre.

It was good preparation for the auditions which will be Jan. 17 and 18 at the Performing Arts Center, located at 1001 Willson Ave.

“I was glad to see the turnout; that indicates this is an idea that will work for us, that it won’t detract from our original purpose,” said Loween Getter. “We’ll still keep doing shows that are not over the speed limit.”

The readers’ theatre format introduced a slightly different production than most people have seen on stage and film. Designed for an older cast, the script is reduced, characters older, but the music remains consistent to the production.

Getter will be the director for this production. Dane Barner will be the music director. Getter encouraged more men to come to the auditions, designed for those over age 55.

Most of the participants have been on stage or involved with theatre in the past.”They know the show well enough they know how it has been contracted to fit just an hour versus a two- to three-hour show,” Getter explained.

“We just want to have fun doing theatre.”

Starting at $3.46/week.
