New members join Webster City school board
Incumbent Stoakes is again board president; Jacobsen, Klaver sworn in
The Webster City Community School
District Board of Education basically
held two board meetings on Monday
night.
The second could be characterized
as “out with the old, in with the new.”
New board members Jerry Klaver and
Kerry Jacobsen, who were elected in
November, joined re-elected incumbent
Dave Stoakes as they set the guidelines
for the year ahead.
The oath of office was administered
by Kathy Biere, board secretary.
Stoakes was re-elected president of
the board; Scott Oswald was elected
vice president. Biere was re-appointedboard secretary-treasurer.
At that point, the two board memberswho chose not to seek re-election totheir seats — Eric Patterson and TreySeiser — had officially completed their service.
But prior to their departure, they
participated as the outgoing board
heard reports from each of the
school principals.
Sunset Heights reported 50
students had perfect attendance
so far this year. Pleasantview
reported 100% of the students had
parents attend the Parent Teacher
conferences. The Northeast
Hamilton schools reported more
than 20 students participating in
the fifth-grade band program, and
performed a well-received holiday
concert.
New Webster City High School
Principal Jason Wedgewood
explained the four-year plan to
counsel students in understanding
how the classes they are taking will
help lead them to what they want to
accomplish after high school.
And he expressed joy at being in
the Webster City school district.
“I really enjoy being here so far,”
Wedgewood said. “I feel a part of
the team.”
At the end of that first meeting,
the old board voted to accept the
election results from November
4.
The next board meeting will
be on January 12; WCCSD board
meetings are on the second Monday
of each month.
