Six Webster City High School students were among the top musicians in the state who performed at the 79th All-State Music Festival on Saturday, November 22, at Hilton Coliseum in Ames.

More than 4,000 Iowa students auditioned.

The students auditioned on October 25 at Hampton-Dumont-CAL, according to Kaitlynn Abens,

9-12 Instrumental Music instructor for the Webster City Community School District.

“From those auditions were selected for the 277-member All-State Band and 601-member All-State Chorus. Only 17% of the students who audition earn a place in these All-State ensembles,” Abens said in a media release.

In Ames, All-State Band members completed an additional round of chair placement auditions on Thursday, November 20.

“Ava Ely excelled, earning second chair in the second flute section,” Abens said.

Webster City High School’s All-State musicians included:

Ava Ely, flute;

Ava Orr, clarinet;

Rinoa Raygor, alto;

Max Anderson, tenor;

Jackson Barner, bass;

Aiden Haman, bass.

The All-State Music Festival will be rebroadcast on Iowa Public Television — PBS — on Thursday, November 27, at 7 p.m. and again on Monday, December 8, at 8 p.m.
