Kalkwarf takes reins as Hamilton County Veteran Affairs Administrator
The Hamilton County Veteran Affairs office in Webster City has been busy handling changes in a big way. Amanda Kalkwarf
When Ryan Sawyer resigned as the Administrator of the Hamilton County Veteran Affairs office in June, Kalkwarf was asked to help cover that position, in addition to fulfilling her duties at the Hamilton County Public Health office.
In July, Kalkwarf was hired to fill Sawyers’ position as the Administrator and County Veteran Services Officer.
Kalkwarf is a native of Hamilton County living south of Webster City. She is married and has two sons and one daughter.
Her interest in the veterans affairs stemmed from her father, Bill Shelton.
“My father is a veteran and I have two uncles who are veterans, so it is near and dear to my heart,” said Kalkwarf. “When working with public health, I realized we served a lot of veterans.”
Kalkwarf has been taking on the challenges associated with the Veterans Affairs office, but wasn’t full-time until July, and she is still learning.
“The biggest challenge is keeping up the pace,” she explained, “I was starting a new position, working part-time as community services (at public health) and CVSO part-time.”
“I learn something new every single day,” she admitted.
