How to help
This week, all Hy-Vee stores with hot food service will offer free meals to kids ages 12 and under from 4 to 7 p.m. The meals will be available to everyone else for $3 for dine-in or carry-out.
Hy-Vee meals menu today through November 7:
Today, November 4: Spaghetti with meat sauce, salad and garlic bread;
Wednesday, November 5: Chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes;
Thursday, November 6: Chili and a cinnamon roll;
Friday, November 7: Sesame or orange chicken rice bowl; locations without Chinese food service, will offer two chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and corn.
Stores will also have food bank donation bundles that customers can purchase for $5 or $10. The bags will include items such as canned meats and vegetables, pasta sauce and cereal. Stores will deliver the bags to their local food pantry.
The efforts are in addition to a recent $100,000 donation to its partner Feeding America food banks throughout the Midwest, including the Food Bank of Iowa.
It has also donated $25,000 to DoorDash’s initiative to waive delivery fees for SNAP recipients.
The Webster City Middle School Student Council is sponsoring a Food Drive that began Monday and will continue until November 14. The students are collecting person hygiene items and nonperishable items for the local food pantry.
The Hamilton County Peace Officer’s Association will Pack the Patty Wagon on November 22 at the Webster City Hy-Vee, 823 Second Street.
This cook-out and fundraiser will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Hamilton County Sheriff Alex Pruismann and Webster City Police Chief Steve Hanson will participate in a “Pie in the Face” contest; the first one to have $1,500 in their bucket at the event will get to designate who gets a piece of the pie.
Items donated during this event will be donated to local food pantries. Suggested items are canned food, nonperishable items and hygiene products.
Any freewill donation funds will be used to support the Hamilton County Peace Officer’s Association Santa’s Helpers Program.
The event is co-sponsored by Hy-Vee and Webster City Custom Meats.
The Webster Theater is collecting canned food and dry goods throughout the month of November to support local food pantries. Bring your donations when you come enjoy a movie — the drop-off box will be in the lobby.
The Daily Freeman-Journal is running an advertising special that will help support the Food Pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church. For every page added to the DFJ’s Black Friday paper, the newspaper will donate $75 to the Trinity Food Bank. It’s a deal on advertising and a way to give back to the community.
