Council races around Hamilton County elect new leaders to govern
Throughout Hamilton County Tuesday, voters went to the polls to make decisions on leadership in the seven different communities.
In addition to the Webster City School Board and the Webster City Council, local residents also were asked to vote on trustees for Fuller Hall and the Kendall Young Library.
975 votes were cast to elect Todd Steen to serve on the Fred M. Fuller Board of Trustees. Steen ran unopposed. Valerie Grimsley received 914 votes to continue serving on the Kendall Young Library board of trustees, and Carol Yanda received 1,031 votes to continue to serve on the same board. Both the Kendall Young Library board positions were also unopposed.
In Blairsburg there were races for three city council positions and the mayor.
The race for Mayor was unopposed also. Troy Hassebrock received 56 votes to be re-elected to the mayoral position.
The Blairsburg City Council At-Large, filling a vacancy position was also unopposed. Vicki Sturtevant was elected to this position with 57 voters to secure her position and continue to serve on the city council.
The other At Large position for the City of Blairsburg had four candidates seeking two positions on the city council. Rodney Harris received the largest number of votes with 47 and Alexander Brennan received 38 votes securing their positions on the Blairsburg City Council. Edward E. Crawford trailed with 17 votes, and Richard EnTin received 16 votes in that race.
Kamrar had the largest field of candidates in the county with seven individuals running for three positions on the Kamrar City Council. Gerald Huisman won the large field with 12 votes.
There was a three-way tie in Kamrar between Gunther Range, Dustin Flatebo and Matthew Wallen, all with eleven votes. The winners will be determined by pulling a name out of a hat during the Canvas next week according to the Hamilton County auditors office. Also running were Jodi Flatebo who received 9 votes, Cody Range who received 6 votes and Ashley Flatebo who received 3 votes.
Stanhope’s race for Mayor had two candidates vying for the position. Jeff Schroeder was elected with 62 votes, beating out Roger Hayes, Jr. who received 44 votes. The two city council positions were filled by Thomas Stupp with 97 votes and Devin Hensley with 86 votes. Mindy Hetland trailed with 53 votes.
Stratford’s mayor was unopposed in his bid to be re-elected. Brian Ouverson received 111 votes to continue as Mayor. There were four candidates vying for the three city council positions. Douglas Timmons received the most votes with 96 votes. Catherine Bergman and Mark Alan Scott tied with 79 votes each, both elected to serve. Chase Haman trailed just slightly with 75 votes.
In Williams, the Mayoral race was unopposed. Jessica Hiemstra received 44 votes to re-elect her as Mayor. The City council race had four candidates vying for three positions. John Fowler received the most votes with 38, Sierra Opperman received 35 votes, and Dennis Frayne received 28 votes which places them on the council. The final candidate was Dean Zeisneiss who received 26 votes.
In Ellsworth, Barry Anksorus was elected Mayor with 50 votes, beating out Dolorus Yager who secured 33 votes. The City Council At Large positions had four candidates for two slots. Brian Phipps received 63 votes and LaDana Sogard received 35 votes and were elected by the residents of Ellsworth to fill those positions. Danny Anderson had a near miss with 33 votes, and Brian Zimmerman trailed just slightly behind with 30 votes.
There were also two Ellsworth council positions at large to fill a vacancy with two candidates running. Marcella Olson received 48 votes, while Curtis Jensen received 40 votes. Both Olson and Jensen will be serving on the council.
In Jewell, Mickey Walker was unopposed in her quest for Mayor. She received 204 votes. The City Council had a much closer race, with Aaron Boor receiving the most votes at 169 votes, Stacy Alsager received 163 votes, and Karl Corbin received 144 votes. This tight race elected the top three, with Jennifer Nobiling trailing slightly behind with 130 votes.
In the city of Randall, none of the races had opposition. 28 votes were cast for Gregg Wright for Mayor, while City Council members elected included Steve Arthur with 26 votes, Dale Kennedy with 24 votes, and Morgan Amundson with 25 votes.
