The bike rack on Willson Avenue in Webster City has some new appendages.
The rack which was installed by Arts R Alive and SSMID —Self Supported Municipal Improvement District — has not only been used by bicyclists to store their bikes, but now there are socks dangling off the various flowers. The rack was created as a unique bicycle rack/sculpture by Webster City artist Tim Adams.
All the socks are new and mismatched, capitlizing on a popular trend in wearing mismatched socks, according to Sara Trueblood, the Arts R Alive board member who organized the project. They are intended for those who need good, new socks.
“Please help yourself to a sock or two if you need socks,” Trueblood said.
The other the purpose of the socks on the sculpture is to draw attention to it and have some fun.
