Webster City school board sees three contested races

With the filing deadline in the rear view, candidates for key positions are, for the most part, in place for the November 4 election.
In addition to Mayor John Hawkins, who is seeking re-election to the City Council of Webster City, three others are seeking election to the three open seats.
They are Ashley Allers, John Marvel and Tyler Moen.
Current councilmembers Matt McKinney and Logan Welch announced earlier this year that they would not seek re-election.
Webster City Community School District Board of Education President Dave Stoakes will run for re-election to his at-large seat, according to Hamilton County Auditor Kim Schaa.
He is being challenged by Ariel Bertran.
In Board of Education District 1, three people are seeking the seat currently held by Eric Patterson, who is not seeking re-election. They are Kerry Jacobsen, Scot Ely and Jeff MacRunnel.
In Board of Education District 3, two people are seeking the seat currently held by Trey Seiser, who is not running. They are Amanda Sowle and Jerry Klaver.
For the Fuller Hall Board of Trustees, Todd Steen is seeking the position whose term is from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2030. This seat is currently held by John Van Diest, who is not running for re-election.
No one is running for the second vacancy on the Fuller Hall Board of Trustees, which runs from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2031. That vacancy will remain on the ballot and can be filled by write-in, Schaa said.
Two candidates are running for Kendall Young Library Board of Trustees seats. Carol Yanda, an incumbent, is seeking re-election. The second candidate is Val Grimsley.
