McKinney won’t seek re-election

Matt McKinney, who’s served 12 years on the City Council of Webster City, announced Monday that he will not seek re-election.

He distributed the following statement:

“When I was first elected to the City Council 12 years ago, I really didn’t fully know what to expect. Now, looking back I can say my time on the council has been interesting, challenging, frustrating (at times), but also one of the most rewarding experiences. I am thankful for all who have supported me throughout this time. My family for fully supporting me throughout this experience and the time commitment that it takes, to the city staff and city managers (current and past) that I have had the pleasure to work with, and to the voters who trusted me enough to elect me to serve. To those who may be considering running for City Council this fall, I would encourage you to do it. Webster City is a great place to live, and you have an opportunity to give back and to make it even better!”

McKinney joins Council Member Logan Welch, who announced last week, he has decided not to run for another term. Like McKinney, Welch has also served 12 years as a member of Council. Mayor John Hawkins has confirmed he will run for council in this fall’s election.

Starting at $3.46/week.
