Get ready.
Set.
It’s the Great American Pie Off.
If you have a sweet tooth, this week’s market night event will be right for you.
The Ladies of the PEO chapter have been cooking up a storm so they can feature an assortment of pies for this week’s Market Night premier event and have pies available for purchase.
To sign up for the pie eating contest, participants must register after 5 p.m. at the PEO booth. The contest will be limited to the first five entries.
Those participating will be eating the mini pies, made by members of the PEO organization. The challenge will be to see how fast they can eat and correctly identify the mini-pies. The contest begins at 6:00 p.m.
Slices of pie will also be available from the PEO booth for purchase.
Founded on friendship and driven by purpose, PEO — Philanthropic Educational Organization is a longstanding women’s group focused on advancing women through education.
Through scholarships, grants and leadership opportunities–both locally and globally–PEO empowers women to reach their highest potential. Their continued partnership and mouthwatering pies have been a highlight of Market Nights all summer long.
If pie isn’t your thing, be aware that Superman will be flying into downtown this week. This is a rescheduled visit from earlier this summer. Visitors can find superheroes along Des Moines Street, and will be ready to meet families, have photos taken and add to the fun evening.
Special food vendors this week include: Loudi’s (Gyros), The Feedshack (BBQ), Quick & Fresh (Sushi, Crab Roll, Egg Rangoon), El Taco Riendo, Taqueria El Paraiso, The Main Scoop (Ice Cream), Kathryn’s Crazy Kettle Corn, Kona Ice and Tropical Sno.
If these don’t entice your taste buds, be sure to support the local restaurants and businesses located in the downtown area.
The Rotary Club is also the featured non-profit for the week. They will be entertaining those at their booth with a human slot machine, and all proceeds support their goal to Unite for Good.
Stubble Trouble will be providing the live music on Thursday night in the Availa Bank Plaza. Black Hills Energy is the stage sponsor for the evening.
And don’t forget, the three regular features: The Youth Fresh Produce Voucher Program, where kids under 18 earn $5 produce vouchers provided by the Hamilton County Farm Bureau. The Vendor Passport Program that allows shoppers to collect stamps to enter an end of season prize, and finally the Market Night in a Box Pickup that can be collected between 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. inside the Chamber office.
