City Council of Webster City will confirm Hotel/Motel grants
The City Council of Webster City is expected to act on grant recommendations by the Hotel/Motel Tax Board during its meeting Tuesday, September 2, in the council chambers of City Hall, 400 Second Street, Webster City.
This meeting begins at 6 p.m.
The council will be asked to act on the following grant recommendations totalling $63,295.77:
— Arts R Alive, $8,095.77, for downtown sculptures;
— Kendall Young Library, $15,200, for rebranding/marketing;
— The DUB Sports Park Inc., $10,000, for development and promotion of an indoor athletic facility;
Wilson Brewer Park/Depot — $30,000, for electronic signage and ADA compliant — Americans with Disabilities Act — restrooms.
According to the council’s agenda packet, the Hotel/Motel Tax Board recommended fully funding both the Kendall Young Library and The DUB Sports Park requests.
Arts R Alive’s $9,833.77 request was not fully funded.
The board agreed to fund only fund 66% of the Wilson Brewer Park ask, which was $45,000, with “a possibility of granting the additional 33% ($15,000)
if the organization provides detailed contractor quotes on the cost of the restroom construction,” the board minutes state.
Also on the agenda, LIFT WC is requesting the city fund a $25,000 ask to help it secure a Community Attraction & Tourism — CAT — grant that would enable the nonprofit to finish the restoration of The Elks, 713 Second Street.
According to LIFT WC President Darcy Swon, the grant “will help us complete the ballroom. This funding will allow us to finish the space to a high standard — creating a venue that draws visitors, generates tourism and sales tax revenue, supports local businesses, and creates jobs for Webster City and Hamilton County.”
The Hamilton County Board of Supervisors previously agreed to support the CAT grant with $1,000 and a letter of support.
