Summer, fall events announced for Wilson Brewer Park
The Wilson Brewer Park & Depot Foundation board members were pleased to hear, during its latest meeting, that the concrete work at the park was slated to begin soon.
Perhaps most relieved was Carolynn Miller, who coordinates the programs for the Mulberry Center Church in the park.
Miller had already scheduled programs starting the end of June. By then, the concrete work should be completed, according to board member Mark Roberts, who coordinates the construction work in the park.
Each of the events will be held on Saturdays at 1 p.m.
The concrete sidewalk will make the church more accessible, with the sidewalk ramping up to the front door eliminating the front steps into the church.
The first event will be held on June 28, with the program “A Day in the Life of a World War II GI.” The presenter is Caedyn Huston, a young history buff who will present the program as if he was the GI.
Miller also announced the following schedule:
— July 19: “Gangster in our Midst: The Untold Story,” presented by Betty Passick;
— August 16: “American Dreamer: The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace,” a one-act play presented by Tom Milligan;
— September 13: “Rosie the Riveters of Iowa,” presented by Linda McCann;
— September 27: “Unconditional Surrender: A Visit with Ulysses S. Grant,” a one-act play by Peter Grady;
— October 18: “Iowa’s One Room Schools,” presented by Sandra Host.
The fall event at the park, Fall Fest, was also confirmed by board member Ryan Rupiper, vice president and events coordinator.
This will be held on October 11 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Progress is continuing on the courthouse, and a committee has been meeting to determine what will be exhibited there once the work is completed.
Also in the future there will be a geocache on the grounds and a Little Free Library.
These were discussed amongst other attractions that would interest youth and draw in more families to the historical site.
