Peterson's car crossed the median, struck rear tires of semitrailer
WILLIAMS — A Mason City man died at the scene of a crash Tuesday that left 60 to 70 yards of debris spread across both lanes of traffic on Interstate 35 near Williams.
Reed Peterson, 68, was trapped in his 2019 Ford Fiesta.
He was headed north on the interstate when his 2019 Ford Fiesta crossed the median near mile marker 147 and struck the rear trailer tires of a semi headed south, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
After that initial impact, Peterson’s vehicle was hit by a second semi, ripping the engine from the car.
