Texts regarding speed carmera fines are a scam, police chief says

The Webster City Police Department has received calls that individuals are receiving text messages stating they need to pay their speed camera tickets or additional action will be taken against them.

“This is a scam,” Police Chief Shiloh Mork said in a media release.

“The Webster City Automated Traffic Enforcement Cameras have been shut off since May 17, 2024,” he said. “No citations or warnings have been issued since that date.

“In addition, there is no way for the police department or Sensys Gatso, the company providing service to the camera system, to have access to individual cell phone numbers. If you receive a text of this nature, delete it.”

Mork added, “Never provide personal information over the telephone by voice or by text. If there is ever a question of the authenticity of a phone call, hang up and contact your local law enforcement agency.”

If you receive a text similar to this, the chief recommends contacting the Webster City Police Department at 515-832-9166.

Starting at $3.46/week.
