Campers solve ‘The Vanishing of the Jolly Roger’

Webster City Community Theatre welcomed 27 young campers to its youth summer theatre workshop last week. The camp was led by three teaching artists from Footliters Traveling Playhouse, a touring program from Young Footliters Youth Theatre and Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.
The campers auditioned for roles in the original musical “The Vanishing of the Jolly Roger.” They spent four hours each day learning the songs, dance steps, dialogue and blocking. In just that short time they were prepared to perform the show Friday night for an audience of family and friends.
The pirates on the Jolly Roger who went missing in the Bermuda Triangle were discovered by members of the Swashbucklers environmental club. Together they solved the mystery of why the turtles were getting sick, why the seabirds’ skies were being polluted, and how to clean up the environment.
Wildcat Distilling Co. sponsored a murder mystery event last fall. Proceeds went to WCCT which had provided the cast of characters in “Murder by Chocolate.” Additional donations from Dale and Trese Arends, Doug and Loween Getter and Anne Blankenship helped bring the troupe to our area and provided scholarships.
Facilitating the week-long camp were Loween Getter, Angela Rottering, Nichole, Sam and Richard Ose.
WCCT will bring another murder mystery to Wildcat Distilling Co. in October.
Youth summer theatre camp will return August 4-8, 2025.
