Williams is ready for its 72nd Fourth
WILLIAMS — Weather man be darned, Williams will go forth with its annual Independence Day celebration on Thursday.
Rain might change a few things in the schedule, but those kinds of decisions will depend on when, and if, it actually rains. In the meantime, here’s what’s planned for what will be Williams’ 72 Annual Fourth of July Celebration:
Wednesday
On July 3 Williams will host a kids parade on July 3 in honor of the Independence Day holiday.
This parade begins at 6 p.m. Participants are asked to line up on Second Street near the bank and Talcott Mercantile. The parade will head east to Beech Street, then south to the ball field.
There will be a free meal after the parade, sponsored by Iowa Falls State Bank. This is near the Ball Diamond. At 7 p.m., Blast and TeeBall games begin.
Thursday
The grand Williams Fourth of July parade, sponsored by the Williams Lions Club, begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 4.
The colors will be presented by American Legion Post 633.
Grand marshals this year are Wayne and Marlene Anderson.
There are five categories of floats: churches and organizations, commercial, kids’ costumes and floats, machinery, cars and antiques, and horses. Parade entries must be registered before 9:30 a.m. and check in at the Co-op Office.
Here’s the schedule of the traditional all-day Fourth of July celebration:
12:30 to 1:30 p.m. — “Memories in Music” by the Ron Smith Band at the gazebo.
1 p.m. — Free Nickel Scramble sponsored by Hamilton County Crime Stoppers.
1:30 p.m. — Little Princess contest.
2 p.m. — Kids Tractor Pedal Pull, east of the park.
4:30 p.m. — Kick ball tournament at the Ball Diamond.
9:45 p.m. — Fireworks at the Ball Diamond.
Lunch will be served at the city park shelter by the community churches.
Lions Bingo will commence after the parade.
There will be a Cake Walk.
Williams Hustling Homemakers 4-H snow cones will be serving at the north end of the park shelter.
Sweet Treats Ice Cream and Roasted Nuts from Jewell will be on hand.
The Talcott Mercantile will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. serving coffee and ice cream.
The Veterans Museum will be open by appointment only. To make an appointment, call Connie Wahlert at 515-571-2781.
If it rains in the evening, there is a possibility that the fireworks show would be rescheduled for Sunday, according to Mike Burton, but that’s in the hands of the weather, he said.
