It's been a little over 50 years ago that a new young band director, Jay Nugent, transformed the Webster City High School band into a highly competitive marching and jazz machine. Earning a multitude of awards during those years, Jay and his wife, Cheri, still live in Iowa and are anxious to reunite with members from those very special years.
The reunion will be April 19-21 to celebrate this common bond.
Registration forms have been emailed or mailed to all members with known addresses.
The deadline for sending through registration was originally set for March 17, but has been extended to Wednesday, March 27. Please note this change.
Nugent who arrived in Webster City in 1973, coined the name Lynx Imperials during his first year of teaching as the band began entering marching competitions in the summer of 1974.
Band members who graduated in 1974 to 1981 will be gathering April 19-21 to reminisce.
The Nugents will be joining band members at multiple functions, including a social gathering, band rehearsal, a banquet and brunch.
The public is also invited to an open house for the Nugents Sunday, April 22, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Ed Prince building on the Hamilton County Fairgrounds.
Organizers are Kellie Smith Peterson, Jani Koolhof Deaver, Miriam Nass Carlson and Cindy Brizius Pangburn, all members from the class of 1978. Representatives from the other classes helped with addresses and email addresses and promoting the event to classmates.
