WHO TV’s Calyn Thompson to be Lenten Luncheon speaker

The annual Lenten Luncheon will be held Thursday, March 14, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 921 Des Moines Street, Webster City.

The catered lunch will be served at noon.

This year, a special guest speaker, Calyn Thompson, will deliver the message, “Faith, Hope, Family–Surviving Breast Cancer.”

Thompson co-anchors “Today in Iowa,” the weekday morning newscast on the television station. The Norwalk native graduated from Wartburg College in 2017.

Thompson joined the WHO 13 News team in November 2020 following her start with KIMT News 3 in Rochester, Minnesota. She’s been recognized by the Iowa Broadcast News Association and Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists for her reporting work.

She shared her personal journey to survive breast cancer in a recent special report on WHO TV.

Leon’s, of Webster City, will cater the meal, which will include bacon-wrapped chicken breast with cheesy potatoes, green beans, roll and lemonade. Bars and coffee will be provided.

Guests with special dietary needs should note that when they register.

The registration fee is $12 and must be paid at the time of registration.

The women of Asbury United Methodist, St. Paul Lutheran, First Congregational UCC, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran, Church of Christ, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic, and Faith United Methodist churches are asked to sign up and pay at their respective churches by the Tuesday, March 5, deadline.

Women of Calvary Baptist, Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, New Testament Church of Christ, Anchor Point, Missionary Alliance, and other area churches and unchurched women are invited to join their Christian sisters for this annual Lenten Luncheon.

To register and pay, they should stop by Trinity Lutheran Church at 1229 Kathy Lane, Webster City, during the office hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to noon on Friday.
