Ayn Eklund named new WCHS assistant principal

Former teacher, instructional coach has been with WCCSD more than two decades

Ayn Eklund will be the new Webster City High School assistant principal when the next fiscal year begins in July.

She replaces Patrick Farley, who resigned from the position in December 2023.

Eklund, according to Superintendent Matt Berninghaus, is the answer to what the Webster City Community School District sought in an assistant principal.

“We were seeking a committed, energetic, and highly motivated educational leader to serve our students as our new high school principal, and we have found this individual in Mrs. Eklund,” Berninghaus said in a media release.

Eklund was a classroom teacher for 15 years and has been an instructional coach in the school district for five years.

Berninghaus said she was one of 17 applicants for the position. Six were chosen from that group. Phone screenings narrowed the list to two finalists. The two then conducted on-site interviews with teachers, students and administration members, he said.

Eklund, Berninghaus said, believes “the Webster City CSD has an amazing staff and are dedicated to providing a high-quality education to the students we serve.”

She moved with her family to Webster City in 1998.

Starting at $3.46/week.
