Kendall Young Library meeting will focus on potential expansion
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the library meeting room
It hardly seems possible that roughly 25 years have passed since the major expansion of Webster City’s iconic Kendall Young Library.
But that was then.
“The heating, the cooling and roof are now 25 years old,” said Director Ketta Lubberstedt-Arjes. And there is some level of need for another expansion. “We have already outgrown the space.”
The director footnoted that: “We are having amazing success in our children’s department.”
But success has a price; Kendall Young Library is living proof.
“We do not have the space to hold all of the people who come to our events,” she said, adding that the large basement conference room is “too small.”
What is ahead will largely depend on the board’s meeting this evening with Minneapolis design firm MSR Design — Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, Ltd. –the same group that managed the prior expansion of the Beaux-Arts structure. MSR is expected to deliver a building assessment during this evening’s meeting.
The meeting, which will be conducted via Zoom, will begin at 5 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.
Space will be a large part of the discussion, she said, but another factor is cost.
This is a public meeting.
