Teen shooting victim identified, alleged shooter charged

19-year-old is accused of killing 14-year-old

FORT DODGE — The 14-year-old victim of a fatal shooting in the 1200 block of First Avenue North this weekend has been identified by police as Dakarie Jayvon James, of Fort Dodge.

Late Monday afternoon, 19-year-old Isaac Alexander Bachman, of Fort Dodge, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, a Class A felony, according to the Fort Dodge Police Department.

A shooting was reported shortly after noon on Saturday in the 1200 block of First Avenue North. Responding police officers and firefighters found James laying in the front yard of a house, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. James had been treated at the scene and was transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after.

Webster County sheriff’s deputies assisted the city police and fire departments at the scene.
