Ladies, it’s time to party

Kevin Rubash, owner of Interior Spaces in downtown Webster City, has the store decked out for Christmas in anticipation of Ladies’ Night Out shoppers today. Interior Spaces, which was Classic Carpets when Rubash first worked in the store, was the site of the first unofficial Ladies’ Night Out in Webster City. That was 20 years ago.

Twenty-one years ago, before Classic Carpets fully embraced the concept of interiors, the store at 631 Second St. in downtown Webster City had three sofas in the store at Christmas and a whole bunch of flooring.

The following year, which was 2002, Kevin Rubash and Pat Westcott festooned the store with 13 Christmas trees and much, much more. So much, in fact, that Rubash remembers Westcott saying it was so beautiful that they needed to throw a party.

So they did.

It turned out the 200 or so who showed up not only wanted to eat the catered food, but they wanted to shop.

So was born Ladies’ Night Out, which takes over Webster City today and tonight, and lingers into Friday and Saturday for good measure.

What started as a party has grown into, well, a really, really big party.

Rubash, who purchased Classic Carpets from Westcott in 2015 and turned it into today’s Interior Spaces, still honors that fabulous impression that spurred Westcott to whisper “party” on that day 20 years ago.
