Coming down

Another historic Webster City building will be torn down

The building at 721 Des Moines St. in downtown Webster City is headed for demolition, according to the City of Webster City.

The property owner contacted the city to notify it that they are coordinating demolition of the building. At this time it is unknown when the demolition will happen, the city said on its Facebook page.

The property is registered to Emerald and Alfredo Diaz, according to the Hamilton County Assessor’s records.

It had three apartment units, and the rest of the building was used for storage.

The building is adjacent to the Mornin’ Glory Coffee Shop.

A structural failure on the south-facing wall of the two-story brick building caused the city to close sections of both Des Moines and First streets over the weekend.

According to county records, the building was constructed in 1892.
