Peterson asks for second bench trial

Duncombe man who has already been convicted in one case, faces 25 charges in another

DUNCOMBE — A Duncombe man who was convicted by a Webster County judge for a slew of sex crimes earlier this month is again asking for a bench trial as he faces an additional 25 charges in an unrelated sexual abuse case.

Paul Eran Peterson, 41, is facing four counts of second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony; eight counts of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony; 12 counts of incest, a Class D felony; and one count of indecent contact with a child, an aggravated misdemeanor.

On May 13, Webster County District Court Judge John Flynn convicted Peterson of six counts of third-degree sexual abuse, four counts of incest and one count of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse. His sentencing has been scheduled for July 8. He faces up to 82 years in prison for those convictions.

Peterson waived his right to a jury trial and asked for a bench trial in April for the first trial.

For this second trial, a June 27 hearing has been scheduled for the defendant to formally waive his right to a jury trial. If the judge accepts the waiver, a bench trial will be scheduled.

Starting at $3.46/week.
