Council to accept Miller’s resignation

The City Council of Webster City will hold a special meeting Monday night at 6 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall. On the agenda is the resignation of Councilman Brian Miller.

Miller stated in a Facebook post that his resignation is required because he has moved outside of the city limits of Webster City.

“Just want to thank everyone for the support over the years,” Miller said in the post. “City council was something I really enjoyed and found rewarding. I took pride in being available for anyone in town who had an issue.”

The council will also consider an agreement between the city and Hamilton County for the purpose of establishing election precincts. The council is also expected to pass and adopt the ordinance establishing the districts and approving the redistricting plan.

The council is also expected to hold a discussion on the request from Webster City Daycare to for financial assistance to help while the center is going through operational and facility maintenance issues.

In a memo to the council, City Manager Daniel Ortiz-Hernandez said the center has been working through many of the issues in the past 12 months.

“Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) is a state program whose role is to support child care centers throughout the state by providing on-site consultation and training on a variety of topics. The Webster City Daycare has been working with the Iowa CCR&R to update its operations, policies, and development of staff and the board. The daycare has also addressed a number of facility maintenance needs throughout the last year,” Ortiz-Hernandez said in the memo. “The reorganization and necessary investments in the facility have begun to impact the daycare’s financial resiliency. The Webster City Daycare has requested financial assistance from the City in order to remain financially stable as they continue to work through operational and facility maintenance needs.”

In the memo, the city manager recommended that the City Council consider authorizing staff to develop a financial assistance agreement with Webster City Daycare for the council’s consideration.

The public can join the 6 p.m. meeting by logging on to the Zoom teleconferencing platform using the meeting ID 835 2315 4192.
