Two newly elected Webster City school board members and one re-elected director took the oath of office Monday night during the regular session of the board.

Dave Stoakes and Kelsey Clarken were elected in the Nov. 2 election to the at-large seat and the District 1 director seat, respectively. Eric Patterson was re-elected to the District 3 director seat.

Before seating the new board, the retiring board convened at the top of the meeting to finish up some business before adjourning. The board reappointed Kathy Biere as board secretary and she also took the oath of office.

The board approved the form and method for nominating individuals to the Hall of Fame, a process board members have been exploring for several months. Athletic Director Joe Shanks was present to review the process and said the nomination forms would be available online, at the high school and at the administration building. The nomination deadline would be May 1, with the new inductees to be announced in August. The inductees would then be honored during Boom Night activities just before homecoming.

Shanks also said the selection committee would include himself, one coach, a retired coach and three community members. He added that the committee would likely remain anonymous to project the decisions that are made.

The retiring board also approved plans to adjust the pay for substitutes and paraeducators who substitute for certified teachers. Dr. Mandy Ross, superintendent, said the changes were made due to the shortage of substitutes. She said paras who have the required qualifications can substitute for teachers in certain circumstances. Those people will have $10 per hour added to their current wages when they substitute. Paras who cover study hall periods for teachers will receive $10 per hour for the time they are covering the class.

Additionally, substitute teachers will receive $130 per day, which Ross said brings the wages more in line with other area school districts and is even comparable to metro area schools.

At the conclusion of the brief opening session, Ross thanked board members Rich Stroner and Linda Williams for their many contributions to the board and to the school district.

The board also re-elected Beth Van Diest as the board president and Eric Patterson was elected vice president.
