Parks to host Halloween events

Briggs Woods, Little Wall Lake to welcome trick-or-treaters

Hamilton County parks are gearing up for two special events as Halloween approaches.

Briggs Woods Park will host children and families for a special trick-or-treating event. From 5 to 7 p.m., kids are invited to trick-or-treat through the campgrounds. Kids games will be featured at Shelter 1 in the campground. There is no cost for trick-or-treating or the kids games.

Campers should provide their own candy to pass out.

Campers and campsites can also compete for a chance to win free camping by decorating the campsite. First and second places will be awarded and judging will start at dark.

A light meal will be served for the first 350 people in attendance, sponsored by the Webster City Church of Christ.

Hayrides will also be offered to the campground area. Participants are asked to park in the beach parking lot.

A Luminary Night Hike will take place at Shelter 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. Participants will have a chance to discover some interesting facts about wildlife in Iowa. They will have a chance to play some glow ball and observe the night sky.

A $5 donation per person will be collected to help raise funds for the naturalist program.

The following weekend, Saturday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m., Little Wall Lake Park will host trick-or-treating in the campgrounds. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite costume. Campers must provide their own candy to pass out.

Activities will be offered in the picnic shelter.
