Poetry and Pastry workshop set for two Saturdays

Deadline to register is Thursday

Legacy Learning Boone River Valley will host a special writing workshop over two Saturdays.

Poetry and Pastry will be held Saturday, May 8 and 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Church, 511 Mary St., Webster City.

Participants will explore poetic techniques, find inspiration in a selection of the masters, and exercise their own poetic muscles. Many exercises will inspire and entertain, organizers said, and attendees will leave with a desire to write and create. During the seminar, enjoy socializing and sharing with other poet lovers, ideas and elegant pastries, decadent truffles and flavored coffees (and other beverages). This class is appropriate for all levels of writers and will focus on the inspiration and techniques used in writing poetry.

Jennifer Berte, instructor, holds an M.A. in English/Literature and has taught at the college level for 15 years. She enjoys facilitating workshops in writing, journaling, and various art methods.

“The best workshops build camaraderie and instill a passion for the subject, but of course, they have to be fun,” Berte said.

The pastries will be created by Berte’s friend, Kris Peed, former owner of Romancing the Home, in Webster City. Flavored coffee and other beverages will be included.

The cost for the two-Saturday workshop is $60. Register at the Legacy Learning website, www.legacylearningbrv.org.
