It took some teamwork for students at St. Thomas Aquinas School to get through some of the athletic challenges during their special Kids Heart Challenge day. The students raised more than $7,700 for the cause.
A steady hand was needed to get to the end of the egg and spoon race. That was just one of the athletic events in which students at St. Thomas Aquinas participated. The students raised money for the Kids Heart Challenge and competed in a variety of competitions during a special Heart Challenge day.

Students at St. Thomas Aquinas School in Webster City recently stepped up to help raise funds for the Kids Heart Challenge. The special day allowed students to learn about their hearts while helping others by raising money for the American Heart Association.

The children spent a day competing in a variety of athletic events and challenges, like relays, obstacle courses, egg and spoon races and others. They also had the chance to play supersized Connect Four, Twister, Uno, bean bag contests and bingo.

Volunteers provided bingo prizes, games and snacks for the competitors.

In addition to all of the fun activities, students also raised money for the cause. The top three fundraisers — who each raised over $500 — were Harrison Scheuermann, Ben Engstler and Liana Veldhuizen. In total, the students raised $7,786.99 for the Kids Heart Challenge.
