Victim, suspect ID’d in Prestage homicide

Complaint: Brown cut Smith’s throat, causing death; Authorities: Both FD men; employed at pork plant

EAGLE GROVE – Authorities have identified both the victim and the suspect in a homicide that occurred at Prestage Foods of Iowa, 3813 Iowa Highway 17, on Tuesday.

The identities were released on Wednesday by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

According to the DCI, Wayne Smith, 50, of Fort Dodge, was found dead in the employee locker room of the pork processing plant. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene at about 5:42 a.m.

Deputies identified Lukouxs Brown, 26, of Fort Dodge, as the suspect.

According to the criminal complaint, Brown allegedly cut Smith’s throat, causing his death.

Brown is charged with first-degree murder. He is being held in the Wright County Jail.

According to the DCI, the victim and suspect, both employees of Prestage Foods, knew each other. The exact nature of their relationship is under investigation.

Brown’s initial appearance was scheduled for Wednesday.

The crime remains under investigation with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, all results will be forwarded to the Wright County Attorney’s Office.
