Virus hospitalizations decline

Hospitalizations for patients with COVID-19 in the northwest region of Iowa were down slightly Thursday, according to data from coronavirus.iowa.gov.

In region 3 of the state, which covers the northwestern and which includes Hamilton County, saw 197 hospitalized COVID-19 patients. That figure is down 18 from yesterday’s census of 215. The number of cases in intensive care units was 36, down from 40 on Tuesday. The number of patients admitted in the past 24 hours also declined from 29 to 23.

Nineteen patients Region 3 are on ventilators.

As of Wednesday, Hamilton County had a total of 1,175 positive case. That total reflects all positive cases since the state started reporting case numbers back in the spring. A total of 538 have recovered from the virus since April. There have been 150 additional cases in Hamilton County in the past week.

There have been 10 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Hamilton County.

Across Iowa, 234,810 have tested positive for COVID-19 while 142,245 have recovered. The total number of deaths throughout the state stands at 2,449 as of Wednesday.
