The second reading of an ordinance which would establish an annual allotment for the Webster City City Chamber of Commerce from Hotel/Motel Tax Funds was approved Monday night during the City Council’s regular session.

If approved, the measure would mean that the Chamber would receive $27,000 annually from the tax fund. The Chamber typically applies for the grant funds along with other area organizations and entities each year.

According to a memo from Community Vitality Director Lindsay Henderson, the Chamber would be required to present a report to the grant committee and council annually on the use of the funds.

The third reading will be held at the Dec. 21.

A 28E agreement between the city and Van Diest Medical Center was approved. The hospital uses the city’s stand alone fuel system and will be billed on a monthly basis.

A payment of $1,496.66 for tree trimming work at the greenspace located at 701 Second St. was approved.

City Manager Jeff Sheridan said the city has had a lease with owners Dr. and Mrs. Eduardo Reveiz since 1986 and the property has been kept up by volunteers. Due to health concerns, that is no longer possible.

Sheridan said he believed it would be beneficial to either acquire the property from the Reveiz family or allow it to revert back to the owners. At the very least, Sheridan said the city should take over the maintenance from the volunteer. The council agreed to have the city continue the maintenance and no other action was taken.

At the close of the meeting, the council voted to go into closed session for the purpose of conducting the city manager’s evaluation.
