WC’s newest business to take part in Ladies Night Out

Sarah Orton, owner of Denim and Babes, 1600 Superior St., stands in front of a wall of jeans and sweaters. Her business will officially open Thursday night during Ladies Night Out. The boutique features not only women’s jeans, tops and accessories, but also has a variety of baby items.

Denim and Babes is one of Webster City’s newest businesses. The boutique will officially open its doors in conjunction with Ladies Night Out Thursday.

Sarah Orton, owner, said she had always dreamed of owning a boutique but really didn’t think it could happen. She was a full-time nurse and a part-time photographer.

She lost her nursing job just before the pandemic hit and after several months, Orton said she decided to “go for it,” and started planning to open her own shop.

“I thought if I don’t do it now, I never will,” she said.

She decided her love of denim would be a natural for a boutique.

Denim and Babes, 1600 Superior St., features a selection of baby clothing and gift items. The boutique will officially open on Thursday.

“I also love baby stuff, and so that’s where the name comes from –Denim and Babes,” Orton said. The focus of the shop is women’s denim items, tops, accessories and baby items.

“It will be nice to have a place to go for a baby gift,” she said.

Her in-laws, Dave and Diane Orton, and husband Jason, helped her remodel the house at 1600 Superior St. into a cozy boutique.

“I was kind of nervous about the size, but once we got everything in here, it’s all fall into place,” she said.

She’s been posting about her venture on Instagram and the response has been very positive.

“I’m ready to get going,” Orton said. “I’m looking forward to having people stop in and see what we have.”
