Birthday celebration

— Daily Freeman-Journal photo by Anne Blankenship

The Webster City Women’s Club celebrated Jane Young’s 186th birthday on Sunday with a drive-by party in front of the home that bear’s her name. Decorated cupcakes were distributed by costumed docents who delivered the treats curbside to those stopping by the house at 629 Elm St. The party also served as a fundraiser to help pay for some exterior trim painting. The birthday party replaced the Women’s Club annual Rose Tea. Pictured above are club members Donna Foster, left, dressed as Jane Young, and Loween Getter, dressed as the Young’s house maid, Susan. The historic home of Kendall and Jane Young was built in 1873. The Webster City Women’s Club has met in the home since 1923 and, along with the Jane Young House Foundation, has cared for and maintained the site. The Jane Young House is currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The house will reopen for monthly club meetings and socials, tours of the vintage clothing exhibit on the second floor, and venue rentals when it is safe to do so.
