Work continues on former Elks building facade

A large crane was used to help construction crew members remove the large domed stained glass windows at the front of the former Elks building, The windows will be restored and reinstalled in the historic building.
Windows and glass block fillers have been removed from the rear of the Elks building to make way for new, double-paned energy efficient windows. Crews are also cleaning and repairing the building’s brick work.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have stalled many projects and events, but the revitalization work at the old Elks Club building is continuing.

The exterior of the 114-year-old building is a getting a much needed face lift, LIFT WC, the nonprofit that owns the building, is working with ASK Studio, an architectural firm, and Westbrook Construction on the facade repairs. Tuck pointing, replacing windows, including those that were filled in with glass blocks, and restoring the two stained glass windows in the front are all part of the plans.

On Tuesday, workers gingerly removed the stained glass windows that will be sent off for restoration.
