The City of Webster City will be playing outdoor movies from a projector on a large inflatable screen every Friday evening through Sept. 4.

This past Friday, the city kicked off the series with the 1970s classic “Grease.”

“It’s just a real popular movie and it’s just a good, all-around family movie for all different ages,” said Kay Ross of HERO.

Ross said there were more than 80 people at the movie showing, and there was more than enough room to socially distance outside.

“We’re really pleased, considering how warm it was,” she said.

The Webster Theater, just half a block down from the plaza, was open for concessions and bathrooms during the flick.

“I think it’s a really good family activity, something the whole family can enjoy,” Ross said. “We saw people of all ages at the movie Friday night. And it’s great, considering there’s very little else that families can do right now.”

The next showing will be the Disney/Pixar animated feature film “Cars.” The movie will start at dusk on Friday night.

“I think it’s a really good time,” Ross said. “It’s free and it’s a wonderful opportunity for them to spend time with each other and some other people in a nice, safe social distance.”
