Voters choose Timmons in GOP primary

Incombent garners almost 83 percent of the vote

Doug Timmons

Incumbent Doug Timmons won the Republican nomination for Hamilton County Sheriff in the primary election Tuesday, with nearly 83 percent of the vote.

Timmons, of Stratford, was challenged by Deputy Rod Hicok for the Republican nomination. Timmons received 1,683 votes compared to 347 for Hicok.

While Timmons will be on the general election ballot in November, there was no Democratic candidate on the primary ballot.

“All my hard work over the years has really paid off,” Timmons said of the win. “The people of Hamilton County have spoken and we’ve come away with 82.87 percent of the vote.

“I’m very grateful,” he said. “Thank you to the citizens of Hamilton County for saying I’m the right one for the job. I look forward to working for you for another four years.”

Thirty-four percent of the registered voters in Hamilton County, or 2,215 residents, voted by absentee ballot. A total of 833 voters cast their ballots at the two in-person polling sites at Webster City High School and South Hamilton High School.
