District to provide student lunches

Distribution begins today in Webster City, Blairsburg

The Webster City Community School District will begin offering lunches today for children during the time off from school as part of the coronavirus precautions.

Meal pickup will take place Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at both the Webster City Middle School (the main door on the east side of the building) and the Northeast Elementary (daycare door entrance). All district students, regardless of meal assistance status, are eligible for the service. Free meals will also be provided to children at Northeast Daycare.

The public is currently not allowed in district buildings, but staff members will hand out the meals curbside.

District officials said the meals will start with cold sack lunches and hot meals to be incorporated after the district determines an estimate of the number of children in need, with the goal of reducing food waste.
