LLBRV offers weekend writing workshop

Legacy Learning Boone River Valley is offering an opportunity to combine the beauty of fall weekend at Briggs Woods Park with a chance to delve into creative writing.

A writing workshop with Jennifer Berte will be held Friday through Sunday morning at the Hickory Cabin in Briggs Woods Park.

The workshop will feature a relaxing, rewarding weekend, according to organizers. Participants will explore the practice of illumination which offers a way to engage with the written word while being present and mindful.

Those attending will look at poetry and prose of some of America’s greatest nature writers while learning tips and tricks for their own personal journals.

The group will play with a host of materials, tools, and techniques to “illuminate” the work. Organizers say the workshop will be restorative and engaging. Participants will receive a hand-made, Coptic-bound journal as well as other supplies.

Berte holds an M.A. in English/Literature and has taught at the college level for fifteen years. She said enjoys facilitating workshops on writing, journaling, Bible study, and various art methods.

“The best workshops build camaraderie and instill a passion for the subject, but of course they have to be fun,” Berte said.

Tuition for the weekend workshop is $100 with a $20 materials fee.

Cabin Stays are available. Call 515-835-1264 to reserve a semi-private space for $45 per night, first come, first served.
