STANHOPE – There’s a lot happening at the Stanhope Public Library these days, according to Polly Hayes, the new library director.
Along with recently reorganizing the library, Hayes has planned several special programs, including an open house set for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hannah Murphy of Jefferson, author of “What If I Am Home With You,” will be at the library Saturday during the open house to chat informally with visitors. Copies of her book will be available for sale.
Also on Saturday morning, youngsters are invited to the library to come make a car out of a large cardboard box. Those cars will then be “driven” in the Saturday afternoon parade that’s part of Homecoming activities for Stanhope State University. That evening, a free outdoor movie will be shown at the Stanhope park at dusk, sponsored by First State Bank and the Stanhope Locker and Market.
In another children’s library activity, children can sign up at the library for the new STREAM program (science, technology, engineering, art and math) that’s set to meet from 6 p.m. To 7 p.m. on Thursday evenings at the library. Children can register now at the library.
A book club for kids is scheduled for the third Saturday of each month starting in October. Local children’s author Katrena Gillis, of Stratford, will be reading her books at the October book club. Katie Olthoff, of Stanhope, will be sharing her children’s book at the November book club.

Adults aren’t left out of programming at the library. Hayes is starting a book club for adults on Oct. 16. Plans are for the book club to meet every third Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
