SSU celebrates homecoming

STANHOPE – Stanhope State University celebrated its second homecoming in Stanhope on Saturday.

Starting with morning children’s activities at the library, the festivities moved on to a homecoming parade and festive tailgate party enjoyed by a large crowd as they enjoyed the lovely early fall weather. The day ended with a free movie in the town park that evening.

Freewill offerings from the tailgate party all went to the fund established by Carson King to go to the children’s hospital in Iowa City.

More than 12,000 votes were cast online for the 2019 Homecoming king and queen. Kael Stupp and Lucy Haman were crowned at the tailgate party Saturday afternoon. Prizes were also awarded to Aiden Haman for best sign and to Garren Zanker for best food at the tailgate party.
