Several new sculptures have taken up residence at West Twin Park, just in time for the annual Arts R Alive in Webster City sculpture events this week.

The two-night event will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. each night.

The juried sculpture event, which features works by artists from Ohio, Missouri, Wisconsin and Iowa, is sponsored by Arts R Alive Sculpture Committee. The group promotes sculpture as a public art form highlighting local and regional artists. It is made possible by donations from local individuals and businesses and grants from the Webster City Hotel Motel tax.

Wednesday night will feature the music of Rowan McCartney and Friends Band, performing with a special Irish twist. Area brass quintet Jive for Five will perform Thursday night.

Also on Thursday, University of Northern Iowa Art department instructor Dan Perry will speak at 6:30 p.m. He will discuss the overall effect of public art in addition to offering comments about the specific sculptors and their pieces. The artists themselves will also speak that evening.

Arts R Alive will provide wine, lemonade and snacks for those who attend the art and music-filled evenings.
