Jewell Jubilee set for this weekend

Braelyn, Alexis and Emmersyn Thompson, of Okoboji, enjoy the parade during the 2018 Jewell Jubilee. This year’s celebration gets under way Friday night with the Main Street barbeque from 5 to 8 p.m. The annual parade is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m.

JEWELL — The tradition and fun of Jewell Jubilee returns to Jewell this weekend with events and activities scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

The celebration begins Friday night with the Main Street Barbeque from 5-8 p.m. right along Main Street. The menu will include beef, pork and turkey from the grill, pasta salad, fresh fruit chips and a drink.

The Lions Club will sponsor activities in the City Park Friday night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Events include the Smiley Face Train and a water ball competition at 7 p.m., hosted by Jewell Fire and Rescue.

Everything gets started on Saturday with the big parade down Main Street, beginning at 10 a.m. Following the parade, the action moves to the City Park with inflatable attractions, the dunk tank, the National Guard Obstacle Course and a vendor fair and craft show.

A kick ball tournament will get under way at 3 p.m. and a corn hole tourney will begin at 8 p.m.

Friday night will bring the annual Main Street Barbecue in downtown Jewell. Smoked beef, pork and turkey will be served, Family activities are planned that evening. On Saturday, the Jewell Jubilee parade will be followed by activities in the park during the afternoon and evening.

Ismael Gomez will provide live music with fireworks capping off the day at 10 p.m.

There are plenty of food options for hungry visitors. The 4-H food stands will serve lunch and the Meat Wagon will serve up dinner. Sweet Treats Ice Cream will also offer a variety of tempting treats.
