The former Elks Club Building

Music once again will fill the former Elks Club ballroom this weekend as LIFT WC hosts another evening of local talent.

The event will be held Sunday, June 23 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Darcy Swon, LIFT WC board secretary, said Sunday will mark the second live music night at the historic building. The first event was held during Junquefest Memorial Day weekend.

Swon several new acts have signed on to perform with a variety of musical styles from classical to acoustic to rock and roll. A few of the musicians scheduled to perform are Gianna Borer, Ishmael Gomez, Abby Smith of Belmond, Mark and Melissa Gilette, Shannon Swon and Daniel Blankenship.

“There is no cost to attend but we do ask that people make a donation at the door of a minimum of $5, if they are able, as all monies will go towards the Elks Building preservation project,” Swon said.

She encouraged those attending to bring lawn chairs as well as a snack and their own beverages. TMI Services have donated a porta potty for the evening since the Elks Club restrooms are not yet working.

Other events

Two photography events are also planned for this month at the Elks. Both will also serve as fund raisers for LIFT WC.

A basic photography class will be offered Saturday, June 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Elks Building by instructors Roger D. Feldhans and David Borer. The instructors will teach the mechanics and settings on a camera to make participants more comfortable removing the auto setting from their cameras to help them capture photos with more depth.

The cost is $25 for this class with $10 going to support LIFT WC and the preservation of the historic Elks Building.

A second class, entitled “Light Up the Elks,” will be held Saturday, June 29 at 8 p.m. Feldhans and Borer will also teach the class techniques for creating light painting photos. Sample of the light painting photos can be found on the LIFT WC Facebook page.

Participants will need a camera with full manual controls, a good knowledge of the camera functions, a tripod, and a flashlight. The workshop costs $15 per participant with $5 going to support LIFT WC and the preservation of the historic Elks Building.
