The City Council of Webster City will hear a report on an upcoming Boone River cleanup project as they meet Monday night in regular session. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

A representative of Iowa Project AWARE (A Watershed Awareness River Expedition) will discuss this summer’s planned Boone River work. Iowa Project AWARE is the state’s largest volunteer river cleanup event. In addition to muscling trash out of the river, participants learn about watersheds, geology, archaeology, recycling and other natural resource topics. This year’s expedition is planned for July 7 through 12 and will cover 64 miles of the Boone River from Goldfield to Stratford.

The council will also consider a memorandum of understanding between the Fort Dodge Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Boone Forks Recreational District Partners for administrative services. Brian Lammers of the Hamilton County Conservation Department, submitted a request the City of Webster City contribute $1,333.33 to go towards the hiring of a part time position to help promote the Tri-county region. This is in partial response to the recent findings from the University of Iowa Students Marketing Department Sustainability Study, according to Acting City Manager Kent Harfst.

A request from the Hamilton County Fair for sponsorship from the city is also on the agenda. In the past, the City Council has supported the County Fair as a sponsor at the Champion Ribbon level or $1 ,000 which has been paid from the Council contingency.

The second readings of three zoning related ordinance will be considered Monday night. The ordinances would change the zoning in three sections of the community if approved. The locations are along Superior Street and Edgewood Drive, which would change from C-3 highway business to R-1 single family dwelling; East Second Street which would change from A-1 agricultural to C-3 highway business’ and James Street and Prospect Street which would move from R-2 multiple family dwelling to M-1, light industrial.

In other business, the council is expected establish fees for services beginning July 1 and will review cigarette, tobacco, nicotine, vapor permits for 2019-2020. Additionally, the council will consider a resolution accepting the work, authorizing the payment of the final estimate for the completion of the 2018 Dubuque Street Bridge repair project.
