A food pantry and preschool are the first offices to open their doors at the former Webster City Medical Clinic after recent remodeling.

Upper Des Moines Opportunity and Head Start are now open at the building, 1610 Collins St. in Webster City, even as work continues on the rest of the building.

UDMO moved in on May 1, and was first open for clients on Monday, said Outreach Specialist Jamie Flugstad.

“Today has been really busy,” Flugstad said.

In fact, it’s been busy all week, she said. Things may get even busier as more and more agencies move into the building.

“This will be (Hamilton County) Public Health,” she said. “WIC will be here. Head Start is already here.”

In a typical recent month the food pantry served 87 households, or 190 individuals, Flugstad said.

The food pantry is open 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. Families must be income eligible to receive help. Call UDMO at 832-6451 or visit www.udmo.com/Hamilton.htm

The former Webster City Medical Clinic was given to the county by Van Diest Medical Center, following the acquisition and merger of the clinic with the Van Diest Family Health Clinic in 2017.

The stipulated use of the building is to be for mental health services and other health-care related services for the community.
