Avenue of Flags returns

Volunteers sought to help put up and take down display

The Avenue of Flags, Webster City’s colorful display of Old Glory at Graceland Cemetery, will return once again for Memorial Day.

Ron Keigan, Avenue of Flags coordinator for American Legion Post 191, said flags will go up on Wednesday, May 22. The work will be handled in two sessions, at 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help with the process, he said. Those wishing to help are asked to meet at the Calvary Cemetery entrance at the southwest side of the cemetery.

The same schedule will apply when the flags are taken down on Friday, May 31 at 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The high school wrestlers are expected to help take down the flags, Keigan said.

Volunteers are also needed on Monday, May 20 to help clean off the 600 flag caps at the cemetery and on Tuesday, May 21, fourth grade students will help remove the caps around the cemetery so that the flag poles can be erected.

Area residents will be able to view the flag display for 10 days over the Memorial Day holiday.
