A handful of Webster City Streets wil be repaved this year under a contract awarded Monday night by the City Council.
Those streets are:
• Broadway Street from the north side of the railroad tracks to the northern end of the road.
• John Street between Broadway and William streets.
• William Street near John Street.
• Two blocks of Water Street east of Beach Street.
The council hired Heartland Asphalt Inc., of Mason City, to do the work at a cost of $544,098.30.
The only other bidder for the project was Nels Pederson Co. Inc., of Badger, which offered a price of $563,598.06.
The repaving is to be done by Oct. 4.
For another road job, the council hired Progressive Structures, of Elkader, to replace an 82-foot long box culvert on Millards Lane near Iowa Highway 17. The company will be paid $152,899.25, and the work is to be done by June 14.

It will be replaced by a 12-inch diameter water main that will be underground. Wetzler said a process called directional boring will be used to install the new main. He said no trees will be have to be removed to do the job.
Summers Enterprise Inc., of Masonville, was hired to do the job at a cost of $124,512.50.
The project is to be done by May 31.
GM Contracting Inc., of Lake Crystal, Minnesota, offered the only other bid of $159,736.
Councilmen Matt McKinney and Brian Miller were absent from the otherwise unanimous votes to award the contracts.
