Work is progressing on Hy-Vee’s new Fast and Fresh Express store in Webster City.

Thursday a concrete pump truck could be seen with crews hard at work laying the pad down for the fuel pumps next to the brand new convenience store at Hy-Vee’s parking lot.

The fuel pumps and convenience store should be open by the end of the month, said Hy-Vee store manager Jon Johnson,

Once an opening date is set, a grand opening will be announced.

“We are going to have a lot of giveaways, a lot of free products, probably a drawing for free gas,” he said.

Using a concrete pump crews from Seneca Companies in Des Moines work at the new Fast and Fresh Express which will feature six new gas pumps at the Hy-Vee store in Webster City.

It’s a few weeks later than originally predicted.

“There have just been some issues, as with everything,” Johnson said.

Johnson said people will enjoy the fresh selection at the small building.

“There will be a lot of fresh food,” he said. “Like any convenience store, it will have coffee and donuts, hot dogs, pizza.”

There will also be an ice cream machine and lottery tickets.

The building itself was pre-build and then hauled to Webster City, Johnson said–which was fun to watch.

“A lot of people were here and saw that come in, with the giant crane,” he said.

The new express store will have six fuel pumps, dispensing regular gas with ethanol, premium gas, and diesel.

The current parking lot will lose one row of parking, but additional spaces will be added near to main store.

The new facility also required more hiring–two new full-time positions and 10 to 12 part time positions, Johnson said.
