Bids rejected for demolition of former pastry shop

The City Council on Monday rejected bids for the demolition of a former pastry shop located in the city’s downtown.

According to Karyl Bonjour, the bids exceeded the engineer’s opinion of probable cost.

The shop, located at 605 Second Street, was acquired by the city for $1 from Fuhs Pastry Shop in the spring of 2018.

The Fuhs Pastry shop closed on Dec. 31, 2014, but there were issues with the structure before then.

Conditions of the building were bad enough that city officials posted signs outside of the building in 2013 bearing the words, “Enter at your own risk.”

Bonjour said the project to demolish the building will be rebid at a future date.
